Print adverts - who reads them?
a question about adverts in trade mags and adverts in general interest / specialist magazines.
I read adverts. Maybe that’s because I work in the industry but I’m looking for good stuff and new ideas and I actually want to learn about what’s on offer out there. New Consumer magazine to which I subscribe, I actually read every page. This month there’s an advert for Fish4Ever which apparently is fairtrade and organic tinned fish. Nice, thinks I, I like to eat tinned fish for lunch at the office with salad. Can I find anywhere that actually sells it online? No. Several local wholefood shops near where I live apparently do - but that isn’t going to make me go and buy it from them. I wanted to buy online.
Now other adverts. Rowperfect UK (the company I run with my husband) advertises in the rowing specialist interest magazine in the UK. We get nil response. that’s zero, zilch, niente, zippo.
Why?
Are rowers intrinsically conservative and never try something new? Does nobody read the adverts? Are they wholly unbelievable (hardly possible given the quality of artwork / design).
Answers to me please…..
