Democracy alive and well!
I have just been asked to sign a petition to the Government asking for the release of census data after 70 not 100 years. Seemed a reasonable cause, particularly for my cousin Errol who’s compiling our family tree.
Having done my bit, I then browsed around the site and found this List of Petitions. This is marvellous True Brit dogged determination and eccentricity alive and well in the 21st Century.
Now, who wants to demand….
- Two new series of Dr Who
- Ramblers to carry red flags when walking on roads
- Prevent shops opening on Boxing day
- Removal of the statue of Cromwell from Westminster Hall
Rather worryingly, there are also
- 151 people who want to stop all immigration
- 6 people who want to stop travelling people living in the green belt, and
- 5 people who want to Force the
manufacturers of Alco-pops include a high dose fertility control
hormone in order to reduce the rate of un-planned teenage pregnancies
in the UK
Yikes!
Hey, that’s democracy at work.
P.S. if you want to help Errol with her petition it is http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/censusinfofreed Deadline to sign up by: 08 March 2007 – Signatures: 14,290 so far.
