Internship experience at Creative Agency Secrets – John White

Hi, my name is John White and I am currently a university student majoring in Marketing and International Business. This summer, I had the privilege to be the latest intern for Creative Agency Secrets and I am grateful that I chose to do it. The motivation behind working as an intern here was to gain some real-life experience that I had lacked so far in my degree. Even though it was a short amount of time, I can truly say I have fulfilled my goals here with the help of Rebecca, Tabhitha and Conrado.

Different learning experiences

It is quite incredible to think that within a space of a month, I gained more experience and knowledge at Creative Agency Secrets than I have had at university so far. The team set me a lot of tasks for clients right from the start, which meant I was gaining the real-life experiences I craved. I was using email campaign tools such as Campaign Monitor and MailChimp to design campaigns for clients. I created blog posts for various websites, where I learned a lot about writing that I wouldn’t have even thought about. I even got to work on the back end of websites using platforms such as Squarespace, WordPress and Shopify. Other great marketing facets I got to experience included SEO, copywriting and market research.

Besides marketing, I learned a lot of about what is required to have a functional and a well-performing team. I quickly realised how important constant communication was to be efficient as a whole. Using tools such as ‘Teamwork’ and having stand-up meetings every morning, I always knew what my task was and more importantly, what everyone else was doing to make sure we were all on the same page. No matter what I do in the future, these sorts of experiences are invaluable and can be applied to whatever I do.

A big thank you!

All in all, I owe massive thanks once again to Rebecca and the Creative Agency Secrets team for giving me this opportunity. I now feel more confident in pursuing marketing jobs once I have graduated since I have experience working in a team and with various tools. Also, a massive thank you to Tabhitha who walked me through a lot of the different jobs I had to do. With everything being new to me, she showed a lot of patience, expertise and I always felt comfortable asking different questions!

I wish everyone all the best and hopefully, we will cross paths again sometime in the future!

Cheers,

John White

My Internship Experience at Creative Agency Secrets — Abigail Mok

Hello my name is Abigail. I am a recent Commerce graduate with a major of Marketing and Information Systems. For the past month, I had the privilege to intern at Creative Agency Secrets. I am sad to bid farewell but I am glad that it has been an incredible month working with Rebecca, Conrado, and Tabhitha. I have learned so much within a short amount of time. Abigail in Queenstown

What I have learned

Throughout the month, I had the chance to step into the shoes of a marketer. I promoted events across various online platforms such as Facebook and Eventfinda. I created blog posts and mailshots.  I completed some marketing research for a client as well. It has been an eye-opening experience to help to update client websites and assisting other tasks. It increased my understanding of the responsibilities of marketers.

Within this month-long internship, I have gained hands-on experience using various marketing tools to promote events and products, which enhanced my copywriting skills. It has been both fun and challenging taking on the role of a marketing assistant. This experience has also boosted my capability to work in teams in a corporate environment. It was great being a part of meetings and observing how marketing teams work together.

A heartfelt thank you

Unsurprisingly, the real marketing world is vastly different from the textbook marketing that I know. Knowing marketing principles and having experiences creating marketing solutions for clients during my undergraduate studies still did not prepare myself for all the challenges in the real marketing world. I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to work alongside Rebecca and the team. Thank you for your guidance along this exciting journey of mine! Has been a pleasure working here and learning from you. I would also like to thank all the friendly people working at 74D France Street South. You have my best wishes!

For those who would like to intern here, you can get in touch with the team. Don’t worry if you have no prior marketing experience, I am sure the Creative Agency Secrets Team will take good care of you.

Since Christmas is drawing near, I would love to close by wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Scrabble It Is Marketing

We’re hiring! – Digital Marketing Assistant

Creative Agency Secrets provides digital marketing services for brands and businesses. We are a leading agency innovating with new marketing techniques like SEO, community building, direct response and advanced blogging.

When working with us, you will learn how to run and manage digital platforms such as a website, e-commerce shop, blog as well as learn the ins and outs of email marketing, database management, and social media marketing.

If you want to get a career in marketing but haven’t found yourself a job – this will get you your first position on your CV and some solid experience.

Being a digital native on the internet is essential, so a Marketing, Communications or Business Studies degree would be considered favourably. No prior knowledge of websites, blogs or online marketing is needed – full training is provided.

Send your CV and Cover Letter to Conrado along with one page describing an event you ran (party, event, gig, etc), outlining what you did to market and promote it, the tools and techniques you used, what worked and what didn’t work and the outcomes.

This job is a 4-week unpaid internship. The start dates and hours are negotiable, and can be suited around your studies. If there is work available for the best candidate after 4 weeks, you may be offered part-time work at $20 per hour.

Applicants for this position should have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa.

My Internship at Creative Agency Secrets – Emelie Tillack

Emelie Tillack InternshipMy name is Emelie and I have been interning with Creative Agency Secrets for the past 2,5 months. I am a Swedish marketing student at Halmstad University and this internship has been a part of my education. It has been great to finally get to work with marketing for real rather than just be reading about it in a textbook. I am happy I got the chance to do my internship here in New Zealand, it has been a fun challenge and I have learned a lot.

What I have learned

During my time here I was lucky to learn many different things within digital marketing. I have learned to work independently and to do research in order to be able to create great content for both Creative Agency Secrets and for our clients. My colleagues have introduced me to a bunch of awesome marketing tools such as; Feedblitz, MailChimp, WooRank, SumoMe, EventBrite, Teamwork, Google Analytics and WordPress just to mention a few. It’s been fun to learn how to use all these tools and see how effective they are when you use them right.

Writing, writing and writing. I have been writing many blog posts and learned the importance of SEO. You have to create great content and you have to make sure your website gets noticed. Because if no one will read your post, then what is the purpose of having all this great content on your website? By improving your SEO, you are more likely to get noticed on the web.

Not to forget, social media has been a big part of my work here. I have been doing social media for some of our clients. It is not always that easy, I have learned it can actually be quite hard. Anyone can get likes, but it gets a lot harder when you want your likes to click through to your website and actually become a customer of yours.

Tack!

I am very grateful for this opportunity and I would like to thank the team for this time together. Rebecca, Jeremy, Laura and Conrado, thank you! Thank you for all your help and all the time you have spent on explaining and teaching me new things. I have learned a lot and it is all thanks to you. I wish you all the best!

Yeeey,
Emelie

What I learned interning at Creative Agency Secrets

Hi my name is James and I now work at Creative Agency Secrets, but that wasn’t always the case…

Back in March I was floating around handing my CV out left, right and center trying to find my first full time job. I had graduated from university in December and after a relaxing summer soaking up rays on the beach I set out on the quest for employment.

After a month of only small leads that didn’t turn into anything promising, I realised that it is actually quite hard to get a job without any experience. My previous work history consisted of small summer jobs and a season working on a ski field so my limited knowledge came straight from my degree. Most of the jobs that I found wanted at least a year’s experience, which I was lacking.

This lead me to looking at internships. An internship would give my CV that extra boost of experience to make me more appealing to an employer.

Enter Creative Agency Secrets.

Hired Rubber Stamp

A friend of mine had previously interned there and mentioned that they might be looking for someone as they take on interns regularly. He put me in touch with Rebecca and I got an interview. I either nailed it or they didn’t have any other options so I was offered a position as an intern!

The other intern…

When I first started at Creative Agency Secrets I wasn’t the only intern. There was another, a Swedish student called Johan. He was in New Zealand on a university exchange and was interning to get experience as part of his degree back in Sweden.

Johan helped to show me the ropes and settle into the team at Creative Agency Secrets, although it was a bit of a competition at first as I was the “new intern” invading his territory.

My internship at Creative Agency Secrets was short, it only lasted 6 weeks before I was offered a job. During these 6 weeks however I learned a great deal. I sat in on meetings with clients and learned the basic ins and outs of how the company worked. Before I knew it I was dealing with proper client work and gaining the valuable experience that I had wanted for my CV.

Some of the skills that I picked up during my 6 weeks as an intern and that I am still developing at Creative Agency Secrets include:

  • Using and managing social media for marketing purposes on the client’s behalf. Including the theory behind social media marketing and some technological tricks to drive traffic to your website.
  • Using analytics to track the effectiveness of our campaigns.
  • Dealing with clients using email, in person and client meetings.
  • Writing blog posts, for both clients and on the Creative Agency Secrets blog.
  • Researching and keeping up to date with the newest and most effective marketing practices.
  • Foosball, I have dramatically increased my foosball skills while I’ve been here thanks to the foosball table and the fierce competition that the other members of the Creative Agency Secrets team provide.

I have learnt a lot and continue to gain new skills here at Creative Agency Secrets. I have enjoyed my time here thus far and have been quickly accepted (I hope) as a valuable member of the team.

Two previous interns have also written articles about their experiences at Creative Agency Secrets. Johan the Swedish intern and Brad who worked here before my time, check them out.
